Fresno Chapter History
In 1978-1979, an interest group of approximately 20 mothers, led by Dollie Whitehead and Poppy Booker, met in the home of Doris Bugg to discuss forming a chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. in Fresno, California. The committees were organized to design children’s programs that were educational, cultural, recreational and social activities for their children. This Interest Group later applied for membership in Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and became a Provisional Chapter. In July of 1980, the Fresno Chapter was approved for membership at the 24th National Convention, held in Houston, Texas and installed by the Regional Director.
